Reacting to this heartbreak, PM Modi applauded Vinesh’s brilliant Paris campaign by calling her a “champion among champions” Veteran wrestler Bajrang Punia  also emphasised that she remains a “source of pride and glory for India”

Bolstered with confidence, Vinesh went on to defeat Ukraine’s Oksana Livach 7-5 in the quarters and the reigning Pan-American Champion, Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman 5-0 in the semis to become the first Indian woman to reach a wrestling final in Olympics.
