Upon a skiing accident that left him paralyzed, Brad Parks developed the sport in 1976 while combining Tennis with rehabilitation. The goal was to make tennis accessible to those with physical disabilities.

A Global Success

The likeness towards the sport spread like a wildfire as the first tournament- The U.S. Open was held in 1980. 12 years later, the sport became the newest addition to the Paralympics, and today it features in all 4 Grand Slam Tournaments.

The Paralympics and Wheelchair Tennis

It became a full medal sport at the 1992 Barcelona Paralympics.The sport now features singles, doubles, and quad events, with categories for different levels of impairment. Through the years, Netherlands, Japan, and Great Britain have led the charts for the sport.
