The Single Greatest Campaign- With 5 Days to Go

The 2024 Paris edition of the games has proved to be India’s best campaign. The athletes have already won 20 medals, including 3 golds, 7 silvers and 10 bronzes– with 5 days to go. This surpassed the 2020 Tokyo tally where India bagged 19 medals.

The Journey so Far

The rampage started on August 30th when Avani Lekhara and Mona Agarwal secured a double podium- gold and bronze in 10m Air Rifle. Avani successfully defended her Tokyo Gold. Later that day, Manish Narwal won silver in 10m air pistol, and runner Preethi Pal secured a bronze in 100m.

The Flow of Medals Continues

On Aug 31, Rubina Francis became the first Indian woman to secure a medal in pistol shooting– winning bronze in 10m air pistol. On Sep 1, Preethi Pal continued her form to clinch a bronze in 200m sprint as well. Nishad Kumar defended his silver from Tokyo 2020 in T47 High Jump.

The Day History Was Made

On Sep 2, India won 8 medals, its highest ever in a single day. Sumit Antil and Yogesh Kathuniya won a gold and silver respectively in Javelin and Discus Throw. Rakesh Kumar and Sheetal Devi clinched an archery bronze in mixed compounds.

The Badminton Domination

Badminton players secured 5 medals on 2nd Sep. Nitesh Kumar and Suhas Yathiraj won a gold and silver in their singles. Then, T.Murugesan (Silver) and M.Ramadass (Bronze) secured a double podium in Singles SU5. Later, NS Sivan bagged a bronze in Singles SH6.

The Show Goes On

More medals came in the next 2 days. 2 double podiums were secured in Men’s High Jump, Javelin Throw and Club Throw. D. Jeevanji clinched a bronze in Women’s 400m race. H.Singh bagged a gold in Recurve Archery and a silver came from Sachin in Men’s Shot Put. India is now 13th with 5 golds.
