The latest Netflix series “IC 814 Kandahar Hijack”, is an adaptation of the incident from Dec. 1999, when 5 terrorists hijacked the Indian Airlines Flight IC 814, 40 minutes after its take from Kathmandu. This star-studded series however, has garnered significant backlash.

The series and its makers have been accused of distorting with the facts and “whitewashing” the crimes of the Pakistani terrorists. Some people have also objected to the “humane” representation of the criminals.

The show has stuck to the names of “Bhola” and “Shankar” to portray the terrorists, which were actually just the nicknames that they gave each other for the hijacking. Their real names have been long known to the world and the show completely steers away from using them.

Hashtags such as #BoycottNetflix and #BoycottBollywood have been trending on X.  The Govt summoned Netflix India head Monika Shergill, upon which she has stated that all future content will be sensitive and in accordance with the national sentiment.
