While it has been continuously labelled as ‘old-fashioned’, Facebook has year-over-year ranked highest in monthly active users’ ranking- with the number being a staggering 3 billion as of April 2024– 500 million ahead of the next best- Instagram.

Looking at the age-wise demographics, it is visible that Facebook has most of its active users in the age bracket of 25-34, amassing to 31.1% of its total user base. While ironically enough users below the age of 24 make up 23% of the user base, putting them at the second position.

Facebook remains at the top of the game because of several reasons. It is continuously trying to adapt according to the changing norms of social media– while upholding its basic ideas. Plus, new features such as Marketplace have made users stay, while attracting more people as well.

The future looks bright for Facebook, with its active users only increasing day-by-day, and its new policies. Its intimate linkup with Instagram and Whatsapp after their merger with Facebook, and a large number of young users only signal towards a consistent trajectory for Mark Zuckerburg’s brainchild.
